Dental fact...
Research shows that oral health—preventive care and regular visits to the dentist—is integral to overall health.

Brushing

Brushing interrupts the growth of plaque—a thin, sticky film of bacteria that can cause tooth decay and gum disease. When you brush your teeth, you remove most of the bacteria, but some bacteria can stay behind. These bacteria can begin damaging your teeth, which is why dentists recommend brushing at least twice a day to consistently interrupt their growth. 7

Brushing your teeth is one of the easiest methods of cavity prevention: by

  • removing plaque
  • cleaning and polishing
  • removing stains
  • freshening breath

Oral health tools to help your child have a brighter smile:

  • Dental certificate: Print off a certificate agreement between you and your child, committing to a daily oral health routine.
  • Dental calendar: Encourages your child to track his or her daily brushing and flossing habits.
