Osteoporosis
Early warning signs of osteoporosis may include loose teeth, gums not attached to teeth and dentures not fitting well. Dentists also may be able to help detect the first stages of osteoporosis through dental X-rays, which can show how much bone density has been lost.
Calcium deficiency, smoking, menopause, too much caffeine or alcohol and too little exercise are all risk factors for osteoporosis.
Your dentist will refer you to your physician to confim the diagnosis and suggest additional treatment.
To help prevent osteoporosis: exercise regularly, take calcium and vitamin D, don't smoke, reduce consumption of caffiene and alcohol and visit your dentist regularly. 10
