Baby - Dental care

Start preventive dentistry early to avoid future oral health problems. Take a look at some tips for baby dental care:

  • Do clean your baby's gums, even before your baby has teeth.
  • Do wrap clean gauze or a washcloth around your finger and gently wipe your baby's gums after eating or drinking.
  • Do try brushing as a family to make brushing fun.
  • Do try different positions for cleaning until you find one that is comfortable for you and your baby.
  • Don't overuse toothpaste. Use an amount equal to the size of a match head and try not to let your baby swallow the toothpaste.
  • Don't forget to floss. You should start flossing as soon as your baby has two teeth together.
  • Do take your baby to the dentist around 1 year old, or soon after the first tooth erupts.
  • Don't go to a dentist that you are uncomfortable with. Try to make your baby's dental visits enjoyable.
